Allianz Re implements remote sensing technology for Agri

Allianz Re, Singapore, Jun 10, 2015

Allianz Re’s Digital Agriculture Project (DAP) has been completed, with Allianz Hungaria implementing remote sensing technology in agricultural insurance.

It is the first time this technology will be used for agricultural insurance on a permanent basis. The completion of this project marks the successful result of several years of dedication from all those involved.

Allianz Re’s Center of Excellence in Agricultural Insurance has been exploring opportunities to monitor crop development via satellite imagery since 2008. Together with Swiss Partner sarmap, a joint inter-disciplinary Allianz Re project team developed the DAP concept, which is now being implemented in Hungary for the first time.

DAP uses global radar data transmitted to sarmap every 12 days by a satellite the European Space Agency (ESA) launched in 2014. This data is processed into first map products using an algorithm designed by Allianz Re experts.

This year, the CoE Agriculture will continue with joint efforts for field trials, map development and enhancement of the business model.
