Our Role is to Provide Resilience for Society
On November 7, representatives of 195 countries will stream into Marrakech in Morocco to discuss climate change topics at the climate conference COP22. The “Paris Agreement” from last year’s conference has been ratified by 92 countries and comes into force November 4. The conference in Marrakech now is all about action and implementation.
One key element of the Paris Agreement is “strengthening resilience and reducing vulnerability to climate change”. ”The insurance industry can do a lot in support of mitigating the impact of climate change”, says Amer Ahmed, CEO of Allianz Re: “If our role is to provide resilience for society, as I believe it is, then we have not only an opportunity but also a responsibility to do so.”
