Following my university degree and jobs in Consulting and Risk Management, I joined the reinsurance department of Allianz SE in Munich in 2004. After working in the actuarial team for some years, I got the opportunity to join Allianz Re Dublin in 2007.
It took me just one night to accept the deployment and I expected an exciting job with more work related freedom, broader tasks, faster decisions and plenty of rain. Excluding the rain, I got all of that.
First it was not easy, as probably everyone experiences some initial pain while getting settled and adjusting to a different environment, finding a place to live, know your whereabouts, and generally to adjust to the local circumstances. But this was so much offset by the very warm welcome and support I received in the Dublin office which helped me to feel at home quite soon. Also the simultaneous arrival of a new colleague from Italy made the start much easier as we could share our experiences and meet for the soup of the day in the evenings as we both were in the phase of getting settled.
The initial discomforts were sorted out after a few months. I enjoy my job and the country to the fullest. The job is broader than before and in the comparably small team in Dublin I enjoy an exciting exchange and collaboration within the diversified team composed of different professional backgrounds and nationalities. There is mutual respect, support and trust for all of the team members. Regardless of our role or background: we are all worth the same and every opinion is valued. That is very important.
And the country is amazing: the coasts and cliffs, the green countryside and the climate. It is frequently cloudy but the rain rarely lasts long.
I like my job because in various roles I experienced that a smart and humorous team is as important as varied and interesting tasks.
